Overview
Bexie Energy’s BEMHP monobloc air source heat pump is a complete solution for home heating, cooling and domestic hot water. Available in single-phase (V8-16WR1P) and three-phase (V12-16WR3P) versions, it covers all the thermal needs of a home with a single, quiet, high-efficiency outdoor unit.
Unlike conventional gas boilers, the monobloc air source heat pump extracts thermal energy from the outside air to generate heating, cooling and domestic hot water, achieving efficiencies of up to 4 times the electricity it consumes.
Technical specifications of the monobloc air source heat pump
- Single-phase model: BEMHP-V8-16WR1P — 8 to 16 kW
- Three-phase model: BEMHP-V12-16WR3P — 12 to 16 kW
- Type: monobloc — single outdoor unit, no indoor unit required
- Functions: heating, cooling and DHW
- Compatible terminals: radiators, underfloor heating, fan coil units (FCU), DHW tanks
What is a monobloc heat pump?
The monobloc configuration concentrates the entire refrigeration system into a single outdoor unit. Unlike split systems that require an additional indoor unit, the monobloc only needs hydraulic connections between the outdoor unit and the home’s heating terminals.
This simplifies installation, reduces the space required inside the home and makes maintenance easier by concentrating all components in a single unit accessible from outside.
Applications of the residential monobloc air source heat pump
- Replacement of gas boilers in homes with existing radiators
- New-build installations with underfloor heating
- Fan coil systems for simultaneous heating and cooling
- Homes requiring heating, cooling and DHW in a single unit
- Energy retrofit projects to improve the property’s energy rating
- Homes without access to natural gas
Terminals compatible with the monobloc heat pump
- Radiators: compatible with low-temperature radiators for maximum efficiency, although it also works with conventional radiators
- Underfloor heating: the most efficient combination — low flow temperature maximises the system COP
- Fan coil units (FCU): enables independent heating and cooling in each room
- DHW tank: domestic hot water production integrated into the same system
Advantages of the monobloc air source heat pump over a gas boiler
- Efficiency up to 4 times higher — same comfort with much less consumption
- No direct CO₂ emissions at the point of use
- No dependence on the price of natural gas
- Heating and cooling in a single unit
- No mandatory annual gas inspections
- Eligible for the UK Boiler Upgrade Scheme and other clean heat incentives
- Compatible with solar PV for maximum savings
Single-phase vs three-phase — which to choose?
- BEMHP-V8-16WR1P (single-phase): ideal for homes with a single-phase electrical installation. Power rating from 8 to 16 kW. The most common option in detached homes.
- BEMHP-V12-16WR3P (three-phase): recommended for homes with a three-phase installation or when higher start-up power is required. Lower current consumption per phase.
Certifications and regulatory compliance
- EMC IEC 55014 / IEC 61000 — electromagnetic compatibility (single-phase and three-phase)
- LVD EN 60335 / EN 62233 / EN 378 — electrical and refrigeration system safety (single-phase and three-phase)
- PED 2014/68/EU — European Pressure Equipment Directive
- MCS — UK certification for renewable energy installations
Integration with the Bexie energy system
This heat pump can be combined with our solar PV panels and hybrid inverters to power the heat pump system with solar energy, reducing the cost of heating and cooling to virtually zero during peak production hours. Frequently asked questions about monobloc air source heat pumps
Can I replace my gas boiler with this heat pump?
Yes, it’s possible in most cases. If you have conventional radiators, it may be necessary to replace them with low-temperature radiators or fan coils to make the most of the efficiency of the heat pump. Our technical team carries out a free prior assessment to evaluate the feasibility of the replacement.
Does it work well in winter at very low temperatures?
Yes, the BEMHP models are designed to operate efficiently even at outdoor temperatures of -15°C to -20°C. Performance decreases with the cold but it always remains superior to that of a conventional electric boiler.
Can it cool in summer as well as heat in winter?
Yes, the air source heat pump is reversible and can both heat in winter and cool in summer, particularly in combination with fan coils or underfloor heating/cooling.
How much does it save compared with a gas boiler?
It depends on the price of gas and electricity at any given time, but with an average COP of 3-4, the cost of heating and cooling with a heat pump is usually between 40% and 70% lower than with a gas boiler, particularly when combined with solar self-consumption.
Does it need maintenance?
Maintenance is minimal compared with a gas boiler. We recommend an annual inspection of the hydraulic circuit, filters and the condition of the refrigerant fluid. There’s no need for combustion checks or gas certificates.
