Balcony solar mounting system that allows photovoltaic panels to be installed on the railing of your terrace or balcony. Modular design for easy installation and adjustment, with adjustable tilt from 5° to 30° and corrosion-resistant materials. An innovative solution for generating solar energy in flats and apartments without their own roof.
Overview
Bexie Energy’s balcony solar mounting system is an innovative solution that allows photovoltaic panels to be installed on the railing of terraces and balconies, generating solar energy in flats and apartments where roof access isn’t possible. The balcony solar mounting system makes better use of the available space and provides an additional energy source that reduces dependence on the grid.
The modular-design balcony solar mounting system makes installation and adjustment easy with no need for civil works or complex permits, making it the most accessible option for flat residents to benefit from solar energy.

What is a balcony solar mounting system?
A balcony solar mounting system is a structure that attaches to the existing balcony or terrace railing to support one or more solar panels. Unlike conventional roof installations, the balcony solar mounting system doesn’t require drilling the façade or modifying any structural elements of the building.
This solution is particularly popular in Germany and central Europe under the concept of “Balkonkraftwerk” or balcony power plant, and is gaining increasing presence in southern Europe thanks to the regulatory simplification for micro self-consumption installations.
Advantages of the balcony solar mounting system
- Generates solar energy with no need for your own roof
- Installation without civil works — attaches to the existing railing
- Modular design — easy to install, adjust and dismantle
- Reduces the electricity bill from day one
- Very low initial investment compared with a roof installation
- Ideal for rental flats — can be dismantled and taken with you
- Contributes to sustainability without depending on the residents’ association

How much energy can I generate with the balcony solar mounting system?
Output depends on the number of panels installed, their power rating, the orientation of the balcony and the tilt configured. With a 400-500W panel facing south with a 20-25° tilt, it’s possible to generate between 400 and 500 kWh per year, equivalent to savings of between 60 and 80 euros per year at current energy prices.
For two panels, output is doubled. Calculate the estimated production for your balcony using the European Commission’s PVGIS portal.
Installation of the balcony solar mounting system
The balcony solar mounting system is designed for simple installation with no need for special tools or advanced technical knowledge:
- Attaches to the existing railing using clamps
- No façade drilling or civil works
- Adjustable tilt from 5° to 30° depending on the balcony orientation
- Compatible with landscape and portrait module layouts
- Modular design — easy expansion by adding more panels
Integration with the Bexie energy system
The balcony solar mounting system can be combined with our TopCon solar panels and with microinverters or string inverters for a complete balcony installation. Take a look at the rest of the solar mounting structures available in the Bexie catalogue for other types of installation.
Frequently asked questions about the balcony solar mounting system
Do I need a permit to install solar panels on my balcony?
In most EU countries, micro self-consumption installations up to 800W have a simplified regime that doesn’t require a building permit. For larger installations or in buildings with specific residents’ association regulations, it’s advisable to consult the property manager. Our team can advise you on the required procedures.
Is it compatible with any railing?
The system is compatible with most standard metal and aluminium railings. For glass, concrete or other special railings, contact our technical team for the most suitable fixing solution.
Which solar panels are compatible?
The system is compatible with most solar panels on the market in standard formats. For accurate sizing based on the size of your balcony, contact our technical team.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, the modular design of the balcony solar mounting system is intended for easy installation. However, the electrical connection of the inverter to the home network must be carried out by a certified electrician to guarantee safety and regulatory compliance.
Does it work if my balcony doesn’t face south?
Yes. Although output is maximised with a south-facing orientation, southeast and southwest orientations offer very similar performance. East and west orientations generate approximately 20-30% less than south, but they remain profitable at current energy prices.
